Ponds Unit Study

My favourite part of starting a new topic or unit study is decorating the display shelf. Creating an inviting space encourages my little ones to explore! First we gathered all the books, then we went on a nature walk & had some fun sensory play.

We source most of our books from Book Depository because they ship worldwide for free!!!

Books we included in this unit:

Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner

Fanatical about Frogs by Owen Davey

Ribbit by Jorey Hurley

The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher by Beatrix Potter

The girls played with a fun pond sensory bin. We used butterfly-pea flowers to dye the water blue and added pebbles and frog lifecycle toys.

We visited our local pond for a field trip and saw water lilies.

Then we started the activities in our unit studies.

We expanded the lesson further to study about the impressionist artist Claude Monet and the 250 paintings that he painted of Water Lilies.
